I'm against this modification, since it's bloat for a single use case.

Multiplotting can be done with scripting, by the way. If you want value
and/or reference in more than one layer you can add a field with the
macros %V or %R.

Also, if you want to troubleshoot without documentation and the board
has more than, say, 20 parts, you're crazy :P:P:P
