Message #23790
Missing Feature in Eeschema
Hi everyone,
currently I started a new project.
The project is quite complex with about 10 hierarchical sheets.
I wanted to develop the hierarchy first with which connection goes from
what block, what is the best partitioning for the design, etc.
Today I placed in the parent schematic some hierarchical pins/labels on
the sheets via the "place hierarchical pin in sheet" tool.(the one above
"place graphic lines or polygons" tool).
The manual for Eeschema explicitly states on this tool (section 2.9):
/"Place hierarchical label in a subsheet symbol. This is placed by name
and does not require the label to already exist in the subsheet itself."/
But how do I go from there?
It seems there is one missing feature "Import hiearchical pins into
schematic".
What should it do?
Provide a way to look up what hierarchical pins are present on the
connected sheet in the parent schematic for this schematic and import
them into the actual schematic as hierarchical labels.
Was this ever present? Or why would the "place hierarchical pin in
sheet" tool exist, when there is no way to work from there? The manual
also gives no hint on this.
Because if there is a label in the actual schematic it gets to the sheet
symbol by the "import sheet pins" command or alternatively by the "place
hierarchical pin imported from the correspondig hierarchical label" tool.
The only way to work around this today is to manually place a label with
the same name as the already placed "pin".
Any comments on this? Is this a planned feature? Is it an artifact from
some old version?
Best Regards,
André
