Eric Raymond on open source hosting sites

Exec summary: Open source hosting sites are hard to get data out of
and are so poorly architected that volunteering to improve them is a
non-starter.

Interestingly, though Launchpad is mentioned a few times in the
comments, it doesn't get mentioned in the articles, even though it
solves all of the problems ESR mentions.

It's hard to tell what's going to follow from this call to arms, but
if it's about making interoperability better then it's definitely
interesting for Launchpad - we're always interested in making it
easier to exchange data with other bug trackers (and hosting sites in
general) and have already laid down quite a lot of the foundational
work for achieving that.
