I just looked at gmail without JavaScript and it's actually quite
usable. However, it implements a modal interface where the "standard
view" supports JavaScript and the "basic HTML view" doesn't. This is
not quite the intent of progressive enhancement which probably doubles
the user interface development overhead. I like the distinction you
make about content sites, this gives me some reassurance when relying
on JavaScript in some cases. Thanks for the insight!
