Bug 341927 and Mailman 3 integration with Launchpad
Hi all, especially Francis, Barry and Curtis.
I re-encountered https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/341927 in a random bug sweep yesterday, and chatted with Barry and Robert about Mailman 3 integration and separate bounce detection and so on.
We agreed it would be great to have a LP/Mailman half-day-or-less summit in Dublin, since Barry will be around too. It would have two goals.
- Agree on an approach to factoring Mailman 3 in such a way that we can get the all-purpose bounce detection we need. Ideally, this would lead to a fix soonish for the bug.
- Do a bit of experimental integration of Mailman 3 to see how closely it matches our needs. We would not actually want to pursue the integration until later, such as after Mailman's release on 11.11.11.
To be clear, we don't want to tie the bug fix together with the full Mailman integration unless it doesn't make sense to do otherwise.
Francis, are you alright with arranging that time at the summit?
If so, I think Curtis would be a better person to lead the LP part of that meeting than I. Curtis, would you be willing to do so? Any other volunteers? I'll help if it would be an advantage, but would also be happy to not be involved.
FWIW, Robert's sketch on how he might want to see for the bounce notification for bug 341927 is as follows:
"""
[off the cuff sketch]: We may need an outbound mail service (which
could be a MM3 component) that all outbound mail is tossed through, it
would then handle all NDR's coming back through it. It could then call
into LP to say 'address X is suspected of being dead' [which could
then tell /all/ the mm3 lists we have, SSO, and the main LP service
that that address is now of whatever status].
"""
Thanks
Gary
