Launchpad is well rid of password management; getting rid of
login.launchpad.net would be a step backwards, and also leave
operating with other openid providers out in the cold.

I agree that its a pain that the two systems are not well
synchronised; I believe we have bugs on all aspects of that though,
which will get fixed in time. The new explicit services model should
make how to fix them clearer (e.g. raise a signal when a user changes
x->y for any sort of data tracked by both systems).
