Calling this is a cache is a little misleading: its not a cache in the sense memcache or squid is a cache.

I suggest also that it would be great to use the task system rather than a cron script to update it. That way it can be updated very promptly when needed, and no effort spent on it when its unneeded for change.

I haven't reviewed in detail.
