Tom tells me that a warning that Launchpad is about to be offline is
displayed on every page for about 15 minutes before it goes down. I
think a longer warning period, say 24 hours, would be much more
appropriate. Obviously you want the warning to be visible but not too
intrusive when the downtime is still a while off.
I have had a few cases where I'm actively using Launchpad, but more
than 15 minutes can elapse between web page views. I might be looking
at bugs and have preloaded many of them into tabs, or investigating
what to do about them. Or, as today, I am uploading to PPAs and only
went to the web ui when I wondered what happened to them.
I realize there are other avenues where I can find out that it will be
down, but I don't look at them until it's actually offline ;-)
