Re: Plan for Work Tracking Tool

Hi all,
A lot of what I wanted to relay in this note, seems like I had written (a
while back) on the wiki below.
Please take a look at what I did and my conclusion on this regard.
https://wiki.linaro.org/Internal/People/MounirBsaibes/ProjectManagementTools

In summary, I did the following:
1) I looked at existing pm tools
2) Eliminated the ones that are not open source
3) Focused on the ones that complemented Launchpad blueprint facility (i,e.
offered what Launchpad does not, for example load balancing, scheduling
etc... )
4) I was really keen on finding a good tool that supports import/export of
text based files, to make it easier to transition to the new tool from
Launchpad blueprints or be able to integrate with Launchpad blueprint
facility.

In addition, I looked briefly at Kaban, but did not focus on it, b/c I did
not think we want to pay money per seat/per month.
When I did this exercise, Agile was not in focus as it is now, so a lot of
effort has gone on regular project management tools.

Other Agile tool we could consider is Endeavour.

Some additional requirement for the new tool that I have added to the
spreadsheet:
1) Load balancing of resources
2) Have a good alert facility, not only when tasks are behind, but also
configurable alerts for upcoming due-dates.
3) import/export of text based files (I think this one has been mentioned
before), but it is important to easily transition to the new tool.
4) ability to define own queries
5) ability to define and configure own reports
6) dashboards

Cheers,
Mounir
