Message #11672
[Bug 1383803] [NEW] When using pulseaudio, there are no intuitive settings under "Use internal volume controls" to setup application specific volume control provided by pulseaudio
Public bug reported:
OS: Mythbuntu 14.04
Sorry, if this is a mixed bug report, but if you know how to split this
into separate bug reports against separate packages, please do so and
link them here.
In audio settings...
If I use Pulseaudio:default as audio output device, ALSA:default as
Mixer device and PCM as Mixer controls, I can use Mythbuntu to control
audio volume specific to Mythtv by Pulseaudio. However, if I choose
Master as Mixer controls, changing internal volume changes ALSA volume
controls (mainly Master, but also PCM and some other ALSA mixer control,
if you lower volume more). That is more intuitive, but it is not an
application specific volumer control. Besides, I tend to avoid setting
Pulseaudio:default as the audio output device, because it causes
pulseaudio to use excessive amount of CPU power.
If I use ALSA:pulse (or ALSA:default or possibly others) as audio output
device, ALSA:default as Mixer device, and PCM as Mixer controls,
changing internal volume does not have an effect except visual display
of volume setting. If I use Master as Mixer controls, it works like with
Pulseaudio:default. Anyway, if I use veromix or pavucontrol, I can
change volume specific to mythfrontend.real ALSA Playback. Consequently,
I request such volume control as internal volume control option in
Mythbuntu.
** Affects: mythbuntu
Importance: Undecided
