I've requested an invitation via Google itself and you invited me. But
I haven't received anything regarding a Google Wave account. Maybe it
has to do with the fact that I use Google Apps for Domains, but I
doubt it.

I'd go with the way Transmissions does it. This way you'd create a
more unified system (not sure if it's the right word though). I
haven't much to add except that the checkbox should be toggled by
default.
