    You can start checking with command
    "cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log"

    Might give some hints.

less /var/log/Xorg.0.log

will make it readable, cat will make it all scroll off the page
Somehow I assumed that someone who is running Alpha version of certain OS is capable of using |more, or even |less.

I will try to be a little more specific with commands next time.
