Excellent Nicholas !! I decide to try the quantal kernel on a fully
updated precise install and my volume slider bug appear on the new
kernel.  Bug 1007674 which we decided to file against the lxpanel
arrived in my precise install when I did the quantal kernel testing.
So it may very well be a kernel bug.
