Re: No alsamixer in Lubuntu PowerPC, no sound

Hi again wxl, (Ø?) thanks for the suggestion.
I tried to launc2h alsamixer -a basic, but nothing. I reinstalled alsa-utils and libasound2 and tried again; and got much the same as you. Somehow I don`t get alsamixer or sound at all though. How do you
troubleshoot for this?

alsamixer -a basic
ALSA lib simple_abst.c:131:(try_open_full) Unable to open library '/usr/lib/powerpc-linux-gnu/alsa-lib/smixer/smixer-python.so'
cannot open mixer: No such device or address

i'm having the same problem, oddly. i was writing you a long email about this when i had a total shutdown, so i'll give you the clif notes:

try running alsamixer -a basic and you'll get more detailed info, supposedly for debugging purposes. it looks first for a file (smixer-python.so) that's not there. that file is in a package (libasound2) that's not installed. so i installed it. then it's looking for another file (/usr/lib/alsa-lib/smixer/python/main.py if i remember correctly) that to me doesn't seem in any package.

what's REALLY WEIRD: i just now (on my x86 precise machine) ran alsamixer -a basic and i get the same error. however, alsamixer starts up fine in it.

so i don't know what to think, but this certainly calls for a bug report. please make one and let me know what it is so i can put my own feedback on it.

wxl
