I'm reading and learning ... and I will:

1. Add a tip about your ppa

2. use your words:

"If you still have problems with usb-creator-gtk after installing these
two additional packages, as a temporary workaround, you can try using
usb-creator-kde instead."

3. Try to make a bug report about the segmentation fault
