Another clue, maybe ... When I can't boot from a Daily (live or alternate),
I'll reinstall the June 13 Daily Build of 13.10, since I consider that a
"known entity."

After reinstalling the June 13 Daily Build and getting a usable desktop, I
ran Update Manager and let it get everything up to date.

Upon the reboot today, I got the same hangup on the flashing dots that I
get when installing 13.10 from an alternative CD and rebooting. This is the
first time that has happened.

I'm trying to reproduce the bug on 13.04 now to see if it will do the same
thing. If so, then the bug becomes a much bigger deal, because it can
affect typical users instead of just us testers.
