RC final testing in T30 IBM thinkpad

Hi,
Some time ago I installed one of the testing releases. This was done with an install from
USB stick although the only USB here is a 1.1 version, because the Live CD was not seen
(the CD/DVD might not work anymore, or the lens might need a cleaning). My T30 laptop has
the following specs (this is an output of lshw):
http://pastebin.fr/28966

I have updated the Lubuntu Saucy testing today, so this is the kernel in use now:
$ uname -a
Linux lubuntu-testing 3.11.0-11-generic #17-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 1 19:38:47 UTC 2013 i686
i686 i686 GNU/Linux

I found something strange about how Synaptic displays the buttons under the menus. Here
is a screenshot:
http://meets.free.fr/Downloads/Screenshots/lubuntu/synaptic-lubuntu.png

"reload" and so on was bigger and above, but it didn't last. After the end of the update
followed by a reboot it was normal again.

Sound:
At the moment I can't get the sound to play. No idea why. I have added some alsa packages
and some gstreamer packages but still not a sound. All volumes are up, audacious looks
like it plays but the sound does not come out. I'll have to check in another distro if I
can get the sound normally.

installed since a few days:

Still not a sound.

BTW after all these years how come does Sylpheed still translate the Synaptic 'menu >
Files > History' in French to "History of the research?" (which does not mean anything in
the context), instead of just "history" ? (Historique).

Wifi connection:
Here are my cards for Ethernet and wifi:
*******
02:02.0 Network controller: Intersil Corporation ISL3874 [Prism 2.5]/ISL3872 [Prism 3]
(rev 01) 02:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM)
Ethernet Controller (rev 42)
*******
Next, I removed the Ethernet cable and tried to use wifi. Surprisingly the gui network
manager was setup on "Shared with other computers" option in the ipv4 tab, and as I could
not get the connection to work I did a "ifconfig" which revealed the ip of my machine was
at that moment: "inet adr:10.42.0.1" with "Bcast:10.42.0.255"

When I changed the option in the ipv4 tab for dhcp, stopped the connection and restarted
it, I got then "inet adr:192.168.1.85 Bcast:192.168.1.255" and now it works.

Printing:
I have a 4 in one HP Officejet 4500 g510g-m printer connected to the local network. I
installed the following packages:

The packages selected where hplip, hplip-gui, two foomatic packages, and because I was in
a hurry to print something, I added two gutenprint packages although I'm not sure they
are needed.

After, I configured directly with hplip-toolbox and the printer was there waiting. I know
the config for it quite well so I didn't bother with automatic discovery method and
provided the local ip for the printer. Once done, it did the job immediatly.

ZRAM : it seems not to work at all. zram is not loaded and I don't see any zram device:
$ cat /proc/swaps
Filename Type Size	Used
Priority /dev/sda1 partition	767996
0	-1

Starting it manually works:
# service zram-config start
zram-config start/running

# lsmod | grep zram
zram 18070 1

The bloc device created is as large as half the RAM:

# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1001 922 78 0 52 386
-/+ buffers/cache: 483 518
Swap: 1250 0 1250

RAM is 1 GB, the swap partition is 750 MB, and I want my zram devices to be 1/4 if not
1/5 of the available physical RAM, and not more.

If "compcache" configuration has been obsoleted, and if it is not recommended to change
the zram configuration file, how can I fine tune the configuration ?

I'll be back to talk about the sound as soon as I will have rebooted to another install
to check if the sound card still works.

Regards,
Mélodie
