Message #04583
Re: 14.04.1 Apples
I spent a few hours yesterday, and again today testing the 20140722.2
PPC ISO's.
The PPC Live ISO will boot if one provides a boot parameter to get rid
of the 8-bit color. My display and video card requires:
Live video=radeonfb:1920x1080-32@60. (I thought this bug was squashed
in Saucy.)
Installation using the "entire disk" method worked without a hitch,
and the computer remembered the boot parameter upon initial reboot.
Installation using the "auto-resize" failed at the screen where the
partitions are presented for resizing. The "install button" is grayed
out and will not function. I thought bug #1307994 seemed to fit the
situation.
I tried the Alternate Install ISO next. It seemed to go fine until
initial reboot and then no joy--black screen with only the arrow
showing. I filed a new bug #1348418. If anyone can duplicate it, that
would be great.
Basically, one can interrupt the boot sequence and use an appropriate
boot parameter to get to the graphical desktop, and then everything is
working fine. In my case, "Linux video=radeonfb:1920x1080-32@60" does
the trick. But the computer doesn't remember the parameter, and it has
to be manually entered at each restart. This may be a duplicate of an
old bug, which a fix was released for, but I filed a new bug. Someone
higher up the food chain can mark it as a duplicate, if they deem it so.
That's all folks!
