I would agree that it is important for PPC.  Many of the really old
machines cannot burn DVDs.

About thinning down the image, guvcview has never worked for me on
machines with cameras and the old machines do not even have cameras, so
if something must be thrown under the bus, that would be the first on
that comes to my mind.
