Message #00273
Confusion needs to be cleared!
Hi,
Yet again, I'm SO confused and I do hope we could solve and clear this
confusion once and for all.
*Issue No.1*
*
*
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu
VS
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu
Why they are different? they should be the same, right? After all, these
two pages are for users NOT for us. We need to make their life easier and
it is not their fault these two pages are not the same!
*Issue No.2*
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu
Whether you agree with me regarding issue no.1 or not, please have a read
(carefully) on that page. No doubt Karl has done a great job on the Wiki
Area but why the page is so messed up? why we are talking about Ubuntu?
then suddenly Lubuntu? then after that Ubuntu again?
Welcome to Lubuntu <http://lubuntu.net/>, the official LXDE<http://lxde.org/>
> Ubuntu <http://www.ubuntu.com/> derivative.
> Ubuntu is a free operating system<http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/O/operating_system.html> supported
> by the Ubuntu community. Ubuntu was founded on the principle of humanity,
> or kindness. With the dedication of hundreds of Ubuntu volunteers, we can
> produce a quality computing system. New versions of Lubuntu software<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software> are
> released every six months, typically in the months of April and October.
> Ubuntu is the premiere Debian GNU <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNULinux>
> / Linux <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux> operating system. By basing
> on Debian <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian>, Ubuntu has the biggest
> online community, the biggest user-base, and the biggest software
> repositories. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_repository> Lubuntu

Either I'm crazy or that paragraph is really messed up?!
And the LXDE Paragraph, if I'm not mistaken, at the login manager, there is
no LXDE Session anymore so perhaps that should be Openbox session? which is
IMHO, whether LXDE or Openbox or whatever session it is, it should not be
on the home page of Lubuntu Wiki. Let's keep in mind this page is the first
step that a beginner or fresh user will come and read so it must be as
simple and as easy as possible.
Then
Learn more about Lubuntu at the Lubuntu Website <http://lubuntu.net/> or
> the Wikipedia entry <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lubuntu>
I have no idea what this sentence is doing at the middle of two different
paragraphs??!!
and even it should be here, we don't want users to go to Wikipedia to learn
more about Lubuntu, we want them to go to our Wiki Pages. After all, a link
of Lubuntu Website and Wikipedia should be mentioned on the bottom of the
page and indeed, it is there so why the duplication?
Back to Lubuntu
Documentation<https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation>
Totally needless to be here - there is a tab on the top of the page already.
and then:
If you'd like to get involved, you should learn how to report
bugs.<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/ReportingBugs> Also,
> we have a separate wiki for the Lubuntu team.<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/GettingInvolved> Lubuntu
> is powered by the community!
Reporting bugs is not the only part of contribution - GettingInvolved page
has all what a user needs to learn about contributions.
All in all, that sentence should not be there IMHO.
Finally, I have learned to highlight a problem and offer a solution as well
so there you go:
Suggestion No.1:
These two pages MUST be similar:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntushould be similar to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu
Suggestion No.2: If you disagree about suggestion no1, then please, agree
to edit that page and make it simple, logical and reasonable.
End of story, I'm very much up to this, I just want your green light and I
want to know whether this email makes sense or not?
Thank you!
P.S.
If a Lubuntu Member (me) is confused about these two pages so how about a
fresh new user of Lubuntu?
