Re: Januty

OK, well, then let's build them, but we should check the wiki page for the PPA to make sure they are correctly described.

Adam,

request membership to the mactel-support team and I will approve you.

Hi,

Yes, but do they NEED to be. I think that most of these changes were
added upstream. I have no problem updating what's there, I just want to make sure that it will not replicate what is already in the normal repos.
I almost 100% positive that the applesmc-dkms package is not needed
(unless there are more changes to it).
The bcm5974 package should not be needed anymore. If we can have someone
test that the MacBook(Pro)5.x machine trackpads are not working, then
maybe, but it is my understanding that all these changes made it into
the kernel proper.

unfortunately not. i had a look at the driver updates in the PPA some days ago.
the difference between the upstream versions and PPA versions are:

* applesmc-dkms: adds support for MacBook Air 2 and MacPro 3.
* bcm5974-dkms: adds support for MacBook 5, MacBook Pro 5, MacBook Air 2
(Wellspring3 devices) and its special integrated button.
* mbp-nvidia-bl-dkms: adds support for MacBook 5, MacBook Pro 5, MacBook Air 2. * nvidia-bl-dkms: not available upstream. but better brightness control on machines incorporating nvidia graphics chips. unfortunately, known to not work on MacBook Pro 5.

those packages are still necessary on jaunty.

the following packages are obsolete on jaunty:

* hid-dkms: the kernel keycodes for F3 and F4 (Expose/Dashboard) changed to newly created
constants that aren't currently assigned keysyms by X11.
* usbhid-dkms: too complex to compare the sources. according to the package description, should be obsolete. works on my machine (MacBook Pro 4) which is handled similarly to
5th gen models by the new module hid_apple.

... and i can confirm that the upstream versions do really work as expected on my machine.

g-p-m and hal-applesmc may need the update, but I'd like to get that
verified first.

hal-applesmc adds support for applesmc's generic interfaces, i.e.,
/usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-generic-light-sensor and
/usr/lib/hal/hald-addon-generic-kbd-backlight that is still not upstream.

ciao,
Mario
