It will be a good idea to add "recent activities" in a format of twitter
to the frontpage. Here is such a function in Joomla's module, jomsocial,
http://www.jomsocial.com/community.html

There should be link if the view is public. At the moment the frontpage is very dry and not able to what's going on. 
I feel we need more flexibilities in the front page.
