This "bug" can be ignored. The messages that are not counted are the
ones that are marked "read". The counter only shows new messages.

  Inbox message count is incorrect

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  affects Mahara 1.5 (seen so far only on MyPortfolio as that is the
  site where I get messages ;-) )

  I had over 1,000 messages of various types in my Inbox, primarily
  system messages about institution membership, join requests, forum
  messages etc. When I deleted them selectively as is possible with 1.5
  (to keep messages sent by users), the messages were counted down
  incorrectly. At the moment I still have 27 messages, but the Inbox
  count is "0" even after having been logged out.
