[Bug 836364] Re: External media type limitation
Hi Shanen,
This is very good feedback and I like your ideas.
It seems like there are 3 separate issues here:
1- adding a new "external image" block to the "external content" tab
2- adding the ability to easily pick a local image in the html editor
3- merging the different external content blocks into a block that automatically determines what type of content it is and adds it if it's supported
We can easily edit this bug report to narrow it down to #1, but would
you be able to file two new bug reports for issues #2 and #3? That way
they can be done / fixed independently of one another.
Thanks,
Francois

Title:
External media type limitation
Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
New
Bug description:
Mahara 1.4.0
I would consider it a bug that I cannot add an external image to a
portfolio page form the "External Content" tab in page editing mode.
This option does not exist - only these do "External Feed" "External
Video" "Google Apps".
To add an image I have to go to the "General" tab, add a text box, and
then link to a URL.
Also, would developers consider having one tool for external media
that determines itself what media you are linking to. Rather than
having to train staff on all the different media types out there and
what they are. I had one person trying to link to a image that was not
an image but had image in the file name. Mahara just told her it was
an invalid media type, maybe there is not much more a computer can do,
but then again there are file type services online that could have
been used to tell her it was an Internet Explorer file?
The think here is I want to easily add an image to a portfolio, and
possible add some text around it, a license, etc.
Related - whne linking to a file using the editor - the editor doesn't
give the option to link to a file on the server - it requires a URL.
So if I want to link to a file on the server I have to copy it's URL,
then create the page I want to link to it from and past the link in
while creating the text. This is a real clunker and the interface gets
in the way in this case.
