This would be done outside of Mahara as a contrib plugin, similar to
what the Android application does.

  It would be great for there to be some desktop application integration
  so I could save files into the profile. This could be done on Linux with
  a FUSE file system or GVFS. An OpenOffice.org plugin would be an
  alternative approach for that application. SMB or Webdav support might
  be another way to implement this.
