I'm not able to reproduce this issue, I could upload a jpg to my profile
picture.

Are you able to provide us with any error messages given by Mahara, or
jpg files that failed to upload?

You can send the failing files to us privately if they are not intended
for general internet consumption. My email is my first name at the
domain catalyst.net.nz.

  jpg not uploading for user profiles

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  .JPG files will not upload for user profiles, yet it does work for
  content uploads. .PNG and .GIF are the only file types to work as
  profile pictures. This problem is occuring on the latest stable build
  of version 1.4 on a MYSQL database (LINUX). Tested with Firefox 8.0.
