[Bug 1246153] Re: Alt Text on images
The <alt> tag is there if you provide one, but it seems that some
browers do not display the alt tag, but the title tag for this hover
effect. The smiley doesn't use an alt tag, but a title tag and that
shows up for me in Firefox. I think that is a TinyMCE issue of how it
creates the tags. Maybe a later version of TinyMCE will fix the issue.
We are planning on moving to the latest version for TinyMCE for Mahara
1.9. Since there are a lot of changes, we couldn't get them into 1.8.
If you entered a description for your image in the files area, you
cannot pull that out directly and have it displayed in a text box
because you just copy the URL, but don't actually go through the Mahara
file interface. Thus, the description would need to be put in again.

Title:
Alt Text on images
Status in Mahara ePortfolio:

Bug description:

Browser: IE7 (client) and Firefox 25 and Chrome 30.0.1599.114
Hi Ghada / Kristina
I have noticed that if you insert an Image Block, when you are in
editing mode, it looks like the description of the file will become
the alt text (when you hover the mouse over the image) but when you
save the page, and check the image, the alt text does not appear.
I've checked in demo Mahara http://demo.mahara.org/ and it looks like
this is a Mahara issue. Maybe something that could be raised for
future Mahara development? - because this is a basic accessibility
issue.
Cheers
Helen
I think they're more concerned when an "image" (i.e. http://s.palnet.edu.au/artefact/file/download.php?file=177) is embedded into a text box and has not been linked to a URL. The image description should appear in the hover text.
It works when it's an image (i.e.
http://mahara-1.8-vanilla/js/tinymce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-
cool.gif) but not when the URL is an artefact that's been added into
the system.
They would like the artefact's URL to behave as an image.
