I have asked the colleagues in my team to confirm whether hey have
experienced similar behaviour with Mahara and I am waiting to hear back.
Aaron thank you for your time attempting to replicate the problem, I now
believe that the problem may be localised. Unfortunately I cannot
provide a link directly to the forum thread for student data protection
reasons.

Also to speak to Kristina's point I went through all the posts in the
thread to see if there was any of the code "flotsam and jetsam" which
one commonly sees when text has been pasted from Word. All posts were
clear.

However I believe that the root of the problem is to do with this
particular forum. After deeper digging I found that the group that this
forum is attached to is set to auto-add new Mahara users. Which is what
we want as it is our Help and Support group. However the forum is also
set to auto-subscribe all users which means that every user who has
joined since September is signed up to that forum, around 1221 users. I
think that sending notifications to such a large number of users
simultaneously is the cause of the problem here.

Please let me know if you have additional thoughts on this. We may want
to close this bug report, but there could be a point here related to
large group forums (?).

  Forum entry posting hanging during processing

Bug description:
  Adding forum entries to threads seems to be taking a long time to
  commit and is just hanging (does not load to show the newly added
  forum entry in situ). The entries are still successfully posting, a
  browser refresh confirms this and the notification emails go out but
  the page itself is taking over two minutes to load the new comment on
  its own.

  Mahara v1.9.2
  Windows 7
  Browser: Firefox ESR 31.2.0
