Just a friendly poke to see whether there are some news about 10.1 support/EOL plans..

Honza - this is a good time to get distributions to provide feedback.

If this is a long term 5 year supported release, is this what gets baked
into RHEL 8? Or if we can ensure a release say by April-June 2016, can
that be what goes into RHEL 8?

Well, it's still too soon to have some real plans for RHEL 8, but what
we're considering now is Red Hat Software Collections (RHSCL) [2] content.

To provide some insight, RHSCL is set of non-conflicting RPMs [1] that
extend base RHEL packages portfolio and we already provide MariaDB 5.5
and 10.0 in that channel for RHEL 6 and 7. These packages have generally
3 years support and the cadence is generally detached from base RHEL.

My original question was mostly triggered by the fact that we're
considering inclusion of MariaDB 10.1 into one of the next RHSCL
releases, but in case this version was only supported for a short
period, we would wait for next MariaDB version with longer support.

It's because by releasing MariaDB 10.1 in RHSCL we would generally
provide support for 3 years, so we would obviously like to avoid
supporting something that is not supported by upstream any longer.

The next Ubuntu release is an LTS release (as an example). It gets
released in April 2016; meaning that this question is just as important
there - should it stick to MariaDB Server 10.0 or include 10.1?

If there was a MariaDB release with longer support period released say
in June 2016, what it would mean for our users is to wait ~6-12 months
longer for MariaDB with integrated multi-master replication. I'm sure
many face would be sad, but we wouldn't need to wait another x years at
least.

        Hi Honza,

There are still some discussions going on whether 10.1 should
follow
the same 5yr life cycle or not. I'll get back with the final
outcome
        once it has been decided.

        Best regards,
