Yes, 2 things.

Firstly, check the verbose output of Me TV to see what parameters are
used to start the xine process.  Make sure that they are correct and
sane.

Secondly, launch xine using those parameters.  If you get here then I
assume that it's an issue with xine's --stdctl parameter.  With this
option you can send commands over the console to xine.  This is how Me
TV controls xine.  Type "mute" in the console that was used to launch
xine.

What does that turn up?
