[Bug 487404] [NEW] Google earth loads, begins to run then vanishes from system

Public bug reported:

I have obtained Googleearth 5.1.3509.4636-0medibuntu from the Medibuntu
Repository for Ubuntu 9.10. I am running a recently installed Ubuntu
9.10 on an IBM Thinkpad T42 with 2G of RAM on a dual boot arrangement
with Windows XP. The splash screen loads, then the start-up tip screen
loads, then the Google earth application loads and the globe grows to
about half the screen, at which the application vanishes from the
system.

Note that Google Earth runs satisfactorily on the Windows XP partition
of my machine! :-(
