Replied to your email, but seems launchpad doesn't add the reply as a
comment.  Anyway no, the 403 errors don't prevent the update from
working.

However they do generate thousands of alerts as threats from our IDS
since it isn't (considered) normal for hosts to generate so many 403's.
Hopefully fixing the perms (or whatever is wrong) so that 403's are not
generated wouldn't be too difficult and very helpful.
