I think it's a strange article, too. It seems written in 2001 with
references from the future :-)
Also, claiming that some things are only possible with AJAX is over
the top: instead of XML also YAML or JSON can be used to exchange data
that is still human-friendly to read.
Finally, the statement that tags are self-describing may be true for
humans, but not for computer programs as is described in
http://www.superfrink.net/athenaeum/e2.pdf
I think I agree with Eric Browne on that XML and XSD are not enough by
itself: there needs to be some domain knowledge added to the mix.
