Re: [Ayatana] Two suggested designs for the Sound Indicator

I guess an important goal here would be to offer the user an option like:

»Don’t bother me with a boatload of sliders and options.
Just give me one main slider (also for more gain because some YouTube
videos are just too silent, like Jeremy said [i for one did not know
that option until now]) and manage everything sound-related
automatically:
I don’t want to hear ANY sound spam.
Mute sound that tries to start from a background tab (but keep playing
stuff I started).
Make it so I don’t miss notification sounds.
Don’t play the startup sound when I am at school or office or any
place where I get embarrassed by you doing that. Actually, I’d be most
comfortable if you never play it. Maybe even mute all sound on startup
just to be sure.
Mute everything else (or lower the sound level reasonably) when I am
getting a call and maybe even when I start watching a movie.
Make it so I’ll love how you manage sounds automagically for me and
never think about touching any control except for the main one from
time to time.
Make it so I’ll recommend Ubuntu to everyone because it is so awesomely easy.«

A good default is what we need. Wouldn’t that cover the majority of use cases?
