Public bug reported:

I tested this on Win7 (where original report indicated) and my mac, and
checked against MushClient to make sure it was not just in my head, and
then verified that this is a regression from 1.0.5 where the issue did
not occur.

This appears to be specific to Aardwolf: I do not receive this behavior
on Lusternia, though I didn't check other non-IRE games as I don't have
accounts as of yet :)

Basically, when you enter a command-- any command-- there is a
noticeable lag of about a second, sometimes more, before you receive any
output.

On 1.0.5, commands would go through and you'd receive output
immediately.
