The bug tracker lost my comment: I use the concept of a "rolling link 
store" that can hold up to 1000 links simultaneously. If there are more 
links, the buffer recycles old link ids and reuses them. We need some 
sort of limit here especially in the context of mxp.

Bug description:
  When you have a link with a tooltip in the buffer for a while, it
  eventually starts getting the wrong tooltips displayed for them.
  Here's for example an echo that after a while started displaying a
  tooltip from a completely different link.
