My git knowledge is non-existent but looking at the kernel source for
the linux package in the xorg-edgers mulitouch PPA I saw the following
in drivers/input/tablet/wacom_sys.c:

        mutex_lock(&wacom->lock);
        if (wacom->open) {
                rv = usb_submit_urb(wacom->irq, GFP_NOIO);
                /* switch to wacom mode if needed */
                if (!wacom_retrieve_hid_descriptor(intf, features))
                        wacom_query_tablet_data(intf, features);
        } else
                rv = 0;
        mutex_unlock(&wacom->lock);

So I think the patch, or a variation thereof, has already been applied.
Is that right?
