Hi,

with the work on pkg-config for 0.8 the way the external plugin  
versions are defined needs a new definition:

is Diego's bug-report about it. To requote my comment:

  With the release of MySQL Proxy 0.8.0 the plugin's version number  
doesn't have to match of
  the MySQL Proxy itself. They can have their own version numbers and  
can have their own
  release cycle.

  Internally there is a API key can verifies that binary plugin can  
be loaded.
