[Bug 232108] Re: MythVideo DVD player crashes on multi-CPU systems

We really do appreciate you opening this ticket to help improve
Mythbuntu, but it needs to be closed for a number of reasons. The
biggest one is that the MythTV developers have turned their efforts to newer versions and and are no longer fixing bugs on this version of MythTV.

The Mythbuntu team has builds of newer versions of MythTV available on a PPA if
you are interested in upgrading. Please follow the directions at http://mythbuntu.org/auto-builds
to enable them. Please do not let the closing of this ticket dissuade
you from opening a new ticket if this (or any other) problem occurs
with the newer versions.

WARNING: If you need to have the ability to revert back to your current version, you
will need to back up your database before upgrading so that you can later restore it, since newer
databases can not be downgraded.

Status in “mythplugins” package in Ubuntu: Invalid

Bug description:
MythVideo DVD playback (On 0.21-fixes branch) will crash on many DVD's with the default Ubuntu configure. This was reported upstream in http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/5356 however report has been closed as worksforme.

I have confirmed this on 2 systems:
1) Stock Hardy install on a Hyperthreaded P4. DVD player crashes when Hyperthreading enabled (ie num CPUs > 1) but runs fine when hyperthreading is disabled (CPUs = 1). No other changes were made to system.
2) Mythbuntu install on dual core system, crashes for DVD's.

Upstream bug report indicates this maybe a problem with the ./configure options used with Ubuntu build.
