[Bug 555841] Re: LG GH22 SATA drive not working
Howdy, and thank you for helping to improve Ubuntu by opening this
ticket. The error at the end of your dmesg.log:
"Read of scrambled sector without authentication"
would imply that the DVD is encrypted, as many movies tend to be. Some quick searching with google turned up the following forum thread that may help you:

Bug description:
Hi,
I own a ASUS P3-P5G43 box running Mythbuntu 9.10 amd64 with kernel 2.6.33-rc4. I have recently replaced a damaged ATA DVD drive with a LG GH22 SATA unit and found it is not detected by the OS. When I set SATA mode BIOS option to "compatible" instead of "enhanced", the unit is detected. Then I can browse DVD files but cannot open them.
I'm attaching dmesg output. The final lines show the errors issued when trying to open a file. No errors seem to be issued otherwise.
Regards
Antonio
