[Bug 594613] Re: 10.04: /etc/x11/xorg.conf deleted after reboot

 

My best guess here would be that the issue is your entire /var is on a
different partition that isn't necessarily ready by the time system
startup processes need it.

I'm going to add an upstart task for feedback from the upstart
maintainers if they would agree with that potentially being the root
cause.

Bug description:
Dear Team,



after upgrading from 9.04 to 10.04 (fresh installation) on a very stable system using an Intel 160 GB SSD as
operating system drive I noticed:

  /etc/X11/xorg.conf 

is missing after every second or third reboot. 

I need xorg.conf to use with NVIDIA drivers to use VDPAU. Without the file the system boots into low-graphics
mode and will not play TV or recordings.

This happened more than 10 times on a single day. 

My workaround was to remove write rights on xorg.conf and /etc/X11 for everyone. Since then its fine.
