Message #02981
[Bug 647950] [NEW] install failed on live cd. tried to get log, but mythbuntu.org is down so no log.
Public bug reported:
Mythbuntu log grabber doesn't get data I think because mythbuntu.org is
down and can't show me the pasted logs, from what I can remember of it
working before.
I created a live cd, mythbuntu 10.04, amd64 bits, on boot I get a dialog
that says: install failed. encountered unrecoverable error. so then I
get the liveCD. I clicked on install, and it seemed like it did, except
when I rebooted it would not boot.
I've reinstalled the os a few times now, and probably ~50 times for
mythtv. spending probably 15 hours working on trying to get mythtv
working--I had it working before (after a couple weeks work (plus
working with a dual head external card to a lcd tv), but it was getting
glitchy, so I wanted to update to .23 version. good luck with that!
nvidia video out card, hauppage 350 cable in card.
Trying to get mythbuntu running is like playing Civilization by Sid
Meier late in the morning, just fix this, mess with that, repeat, etc,
just one more turn, til all of a sudden it's sunrise the next day...
Then I gave up and installed ubuntu 10.04 from another cd. Then loaded
mythbuntu from a package on mythbuntu.org, messed with that, after a day
I finally got livetv working, but on rebooting it couldn't find the
database. So after about a dozen add/remove mythtv server/client
attempts, via the communication centre and command line, I reloaded the
os from scratch to no avail.
I've learned how to login in to to mysql via the root and mythtv
uname/pwds. and messed with dhcp and static ip addresses, and localhost,
hostname, servername, etc, they show up in the mysql table with various
users but I still can't figure out why
I read one of the mythbuntu bugs saying where the mythtv comm center has
a problem with client/server setup such that there's a db problem--that
sure sounds like what I'm experiencing.
sometimes I think this is a test of character, or, stupidity. I say I'm
a web designer, but I'm becoming a linux admin just by trying to watch
tv like a tivo. thanks for your patience, I'm hoping this post will let
me get some sleep tonite.
