[Bug 1087908] [NEW] mythbackend crashed with SIGSEGV in IsConnected() on startup

Public bug reported:

The crash started happening this week when I upgraded to the latest
security updates for Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS and the 12/06 0.26-fixes update.
At first, it only happened when recordings were starting, but now I
can't start the backend at all.
