[Bug 582617] Re: Homebrew serial IR reciver not properly supported in MCC - breaks when changing other settings in MCC

We really do appreciate you opening this ticket to help improve
Mythbuntu, but it needs to be closed for a number of reasons. The
biggest one is that upstream believes this to be fixed in the latest
version. Could you please verify if this issue still exists in the
latest version?

Please do not let the closing of this ticket dissuade you from opening a
new ticket if this (or any other) problem occurs with the newer
versions.

Title:
Homebrew serial IR reciver not properly supported in MCC - breaks when
  changing other settings in MCC

Status in Mythbuntu, Ubuntu derivative focused upon MythTV:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
Within MCC, under the IR menu, there is no option to configure a
"Homebrew Serial IR" receiver. To get around this I go to the terminal
  and configure via:

  sudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc

This gives me an option to choose "Homebrew 16x50 UART compatible"
this is NOT available in the X windows GUI in MCC under the Infrared
  Remotes section.

By configuring via the terminal I can generate a working hardware.conf
file and my serial receiver works as expected.

Now for the bug: When I subsequently go back into MCC and configure
something else non IR related, say, VNC and then click apply. The
changes displayed include a LIRC item. When I click apply MCC wipes
out my manually configured LIRC config, ie. hardware.conf is erased
and my serial IR rx no longer works.

This means I can make no changes to anything in MCC without destroying
  my hardware.conf file.
