Public bug reported:

Attempting to assign keyboard shortcut, I tried both KMenu Edit and
System Settings | Shortcuts and Gestures to assign meta key
combinations.  (meta-e for dolphin and meta-f for firefox). Both failed.
However, I was able to successfully assign meta-spacebar to krunner
under the Global Keyboard shortcuts.

When attempting to set t the KMenuEdit shortcuts, pressing the meta key
fills the shortcut button with empty squares.  If I click and hold the
menu button using the left mouse button, then press the key combo
desired, the meta-key combo is displayed in the button.  The shortcut
button appears to accept the shortcut by displaying the correct meta+key
combo, but none of the KDE menu shortcuts function as defined.
