[Question #132916]: How to delete previous backups in order to change location of new backup files

I previously made a complete backup and additional increments in the var/ directory. Now I want to start from fresh and change to a new backup location. How can I delete the old backups in the var/ directory as it won't allow me to delete those backup files.
Help would be appreciated.
