My machine is a stock Dell 9 with a 4 GB SSD, upgraded to 2 GB of RAM.
The machine was dropped once when I fell down some stairs on March 31,
but the netbook doesn't appear to have suffered any damage other than
the mouse battery popping out. Durability is a major reason I chose a
SSD. The issue didn't occur for a month after my accident shortly after
Dell released a torrent of upgrade downloads after not offering any
updated packages for a long time.
I was running the factory installed Hardy, but with some packages
removed (games, OOs, I believe) and others added. Obviously, with only
a 4 GB HD for / & /home I couldn't go too hog-wild with packages.
Eventually I kept getting the same message and neither the Force option
nor uninstalling would unplug apt so I couldn't use the package
manager. I ran it like that for about a month but got tired of it and
eventually installed Jaunty which works nicely.

Upgrading is failing. The Upgrade Manager gives this error:

apt-get upgrade gives about the same result. Trying to manually touch or create the directory fails with an Input/output error. So does re-downloading the file or trying to install it manually.

It looks like it is trying to install a Swedish man page, probably not a high priority for most. I'm hesitant to try to uninstall a package called 'login' to try and unstick the system. It is a security problem because it prevents me from upgrading.
