New (v8) chat feature XMPP compatible?

Hi,

just out of curiosity: Is the new chat feature of version 8
compatible to XMPP like the crm_livechat module? This would
be really useful, because it would allow use of 3rd party
clients, video/audio chat etc. TIA!
