This is sensible and makes sense; thanks for explaining your reasoning. (I particularly like the 3rd point)

In small companies however, where the "salesman" is the owner, or in a senior position, then creating an SO is just an extra step that isn't really necessary.

But I can certainly use your reasoning in future discussions ;-)
