Problem is that only "invited" users can sign up, and that "invitation" 
is received after placing some kind of order...  Many times it will be 
required to accept new users without invitation, as when you want some 
kind of "community" around your page.  This one could be accomplish 
reusing the parts from the checkout process...
Also, some times in current login screen, the register option is not 
present (there should be some bug around it...)
Maybe these will be fixed on "website_login" branch, but at least in 
current normal login remains with problems...

I just tried again, but it is still the same...  If you have a "website 
user"  (public role assigned)  then if user logs in he gets access to 
regular OpenERP menus.... like messaging, association, Human Resourses, ...
